Here we are, finally taking the plunge with my first EP!

Songs of Autumn is a collection of my more chilled-out and less energetic fare. A little bit breakbeats, a little bit anthemic, a little bit downtempo electronica.

Why autumn instead of summer? These songs are all reminiscences of my time in Japan, from Summer to early Winter of 2010. What sticks out most to me is the landscape of rural Tsuru, the city where I stayed; in particular, the changing colors of leaves in the fall.

I find myself oddly fascinated with the nature of impending decay; not in a nihilistic or self-destructive sense, but with the image of one's greatest moment of glory coming in a massive spectacle, only to fall apart shortly thereafter.

The Japanese have a similar mentality with their national tree, the cherry tree. During the spring, the Japanese people hold events lasting for several days where one may sit with friends beneath the blossoming cherry trees and enjoy the surroundings. This event is called "Hanami," and to many Japanese it represents this very notion of one's prime experiences in life being so impactful and beautiful, yet simultaneously so fragile.

In this way, Songs of Autumn is my interpretation of beauty paired with decay, the brevity of majesty.
